Psalm 62:1-12.....
Psalm 62:1-12.....
This is a return, somewhat, to last week’s sermon..........I have been thinking a lot this week about the hopes and dreams of man. The ideas of man. Then I compare those with God’s Word and I get things that I read in Isaiah, as we study on Wed. nights.
Isaiah 2:22 “Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: For wherein is he to be accounted of?”
Isaiah 2:10-11 “Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, For fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty. The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, And the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, And the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.”
This is the reality of man, everything will be humbled when Jesus comes to execute judgment......the Glory of His Majesty will shine so, that people will run and try to hide from it but they will find no refuge!
Revelation 6:12-16..........This is just a glimpse of what it would be like.........Some will say, that God is not like that, He won’t do that.
What people like that do not see, is that God instead of doing that has held off His justice upon mankind, because He is a merciful God and a God that is Love.
A reckoning by God is coming, “the Day of the Lord”!
This Truth is what sparked my thinking of how we treat God, how we treat His Son, how we treat the Holy Spirit!
I say it a lot, but we try and make God something we want, rather than Who He Is! You’ve heard the saying Jesus hung around sinners? That is not right, sinners hung around Jesus......but we like to say that Jesus joined in with us, because it makes us feel better about ourselves! Or, maybe we can just keep doing things that we love more than following Christ!
Either way, we have trodden under foot the Blood of Christ!
I have been listening to a lot of powerful preaching this week........One sermon, the preacher stated that the Only Covenant Keeper, The Messiah Jesus Christ The Son Of The Living God, was treated as the single Covenant breaker!
Galatians 3:13 “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:”
There seems to be no regard for Jesus becoming a curse for us, Who knew no sin! It is only a mindset of “what is my purpose, what is the Lord’s will for my life” Me, Me, Me!
There is only One Purpose and One Will, to follow Jesus Christ! Walk by Faith not by sight!
This brings me to our text Psalm 62:1-12..........Similar to last week, we find ourselves hearing from David..
My soul waits for God.......This is translated more like.....”my soul waits in silence for God”
There is a greater meaning to the beginning of David’s song or praise..........Adam Clarke stated that he waits dumb for the Lord.......... “I am subject to God Almighty. He has a right to lay on me what he pleases; and what he lays on me is much less than I deserve: therefore am I dumb before God.”
Charles Spurgeon states it this way: “Make him the summit of thy desires and the object of thine exertions. Oh! how many men have made a fearful shipwreck of their entire existence, by choosing an object inferior to this high and noble object of existence, the serving of God. I could put my finger upon a thousand biographies of men, who after having lived in this world and done great things, have nevertheless died unhappily, because they did not first seek God and his righteousness.”
After reading all of these different quotes, it seems what David is telling us, is to wait on God above anything else!
In other words.........My salvation, my deliverance, my safety, my assurance, everything I am seeking for resides in God!
Truly that is fulfilled! Do you understand that?
God can truly call an end to all of this and rapture His true church and pour out His judgement on the earth and all the rejecters, because Jesus has already done every thing that is needed!
In a breath it can happen that way, you could inhale one milli-second and the next you will be in the midst of the 7 year tribulation or with God and Christ!
Therefore, my salvation is the Lord Jesus Christ and I am staying here with Jesus, I will not be moved out of His Way, because He keeps me, because I have trusted in Him!
A writer wrote about our earthly passions; “It is not wise to associate ourselves with those that cling to what will certainly be defeated. We should cease from those or consider them no account and walk/live in the salvation/light of the Lord.”
These are powerful thought in life, we need to be reminded every moment of our lives or else we become like the children of Israel and walk/live in that Deuteronomic circle.
In and out with God......Time after time.....over and over....falling out of God’s Way…It is only a true wonder of the mind, how God put up with them and us.........
Lamentations 3:22-24 “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.”
The Lord is my portion, I will hope in Him! This is what the soul, the very centre of man declares!
In God is where my Glory is.......not in how my life turns out here, only in Christ Jesus!
Colossians 3:4 “When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”
Verse 8 David preaches to us to “Trust in Him at all times; pour out your heart before Him.....”
“My soul, make God thine only dependence, and never trust in anything else”
Pour out your heart........we do have a sympathetic High Priest in Jesus Christ, we can pour out our heart to Him!
The “heart-pourings” will be sifted by Christ and those that do not belong will be judged and cast away.....
2 Corinthians 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”
The heart after Christ can be heard, the heart after yourself will be brought to Jesus and turned or cast away to get the place where the heart is after the obedience of Christ!
This sounds judgmental at the surface and maybe it is, but it is truly merciful......What Paul is telling this church is to take every thought before everything that Jesus is and allow Christ and His perfect work sift through those and that will bring us to the place of casting down anything that exalts itself above God!
The Lord knows my thoughts and I cannot trust my thoughts always, I must lean and trust in Jesus Christ and His way and let that measure my thoughts and I cast out what doesn’t belong!
Verse 9 gives us the reason why..............This just states that ALL men are vanity......altogether they are even lighter than emptiness!
Do not trust in man...........do not trust in the ways of man.......use discernment!
How? Measure everything by Christ Jesus, measure everything by the whole counsel of God!
If it does not match in the slightest way, abandon it, abstain from it.......a little bit of corruption will corrupt the whole lump.
Power belongs only to God!
That is great belief.....If you truly believe with all your heart that God only has power, then you will live accordingly!
Everything that I don’t trust about man, I have been and it sometimes rears it rears it’s ugly head.......Thank God for His mercy!!! No, it doesn’t we continually live in a state of disobedience, God forbid! However, Mercy/Steadfast Love makes us love God more and more each day!!!!!
God will render, recompense, give unto each person according to their works.......
My works is in Jesus Christ......Colossians 3:3 “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”
